To call DSP a creative composer is the least credit you can give him after the many unique ways he has found to keep his music alive and different.He created several trends and one of it is the selection of singers.It all started when he brought back the almost forgotten indian king of rap Baba Sehgal back to south with the title song of Jalsa. And then came the trend of using heroes as singers !
Megastar Chiranjeevi earlier sang Thammudu Arey Thammudu song from Master debuted by Manisharma and later Chai Chai Song from Mrugaraju and they were instant hits. Being a big fan of Chiranjeevi right from his childhood, DSP has given Chaila Chaila, a peppy song from Shankar Dada MBBS in his first movie with the megastar which was an instant chartbuster. Later in an interview he said that he was impressed with his work and actually selected not only this song but also all songs on single tone. DSP seem himself at the start of this song in film. Again when given a chance for the movie sequel Shankardada Zindabad,he once again proved his mettle by giving a musical bonanza for the audience.
Anyone who say they do not miss the song Neelakasam from the movie Manmadha Banam once they have heard it ,then it must be nothing short than a mere lie.The ones who have heard it have fallen in love with it and others who do not know about the song should give it a try.The song is sung by none other than Universal Hero Kamal Hassan to take it a step ahead. At one of the interviews Kamal Hassan said that he loved the song so much that he ultimately got attached to it. He also sang two other songs Dhagulu Dhanda and Kamal Kavidhai (in Tamil) for the same movie.
Next on the list would be Siddharth. He sang 2 songs in his own films. One song from Bommarillu, Appudo ippudo eppudo and it turned out to be a huge hit. The second in Aata, Ninu chustunte mati potundi which also got good response.
Next comes Chiyan Vikram.The whole of south India knew his as an actor till Devi recognized the singing talent in him and made him sing 3 songs from the movie Mallanna,Meow Meow, Ivanni dupe and Mambo Ma Miya which created sensation.
NTR was known for his extra ordinary dialogue delivery but it was Devi who made him sing a full length song in Adhurs ,Chari. And thus NTR is now a singer.
Shraddha Das popularly know as sequel queen has sung too under the music direction of DSP for Charmi’s Sye Aata. The song is a mass masala number, Gajjela Gurram.
Last but not least on the list is Swathi(Colors). She has one of the sweetest voices in the industry down south and also is a dubbing artist for actresses. Her journey as singer began recently with Appalraju but the song that brought her into limelight is A square B square from the movie 100% Love. She was over the moon after the tremendous response she got and all thanks to Devi.
There is a special relation between the songs Ningi Jaaripadda and Aggipulla Lanti from his recent album Mr.Perfect. The singers of the above two songs are married in real life (Mallikarjun and Gopika Poornima). He had this idea of married couple singing in two contradictory songs and this has given the extra feel to the songs.
“Music is in everybody’s blood” ,says DSP,”or else there is no concept of bathroom singing”,he adds.
This is what creativity is and he showed it once again that this is what makes the music click.
